Copeland

Calling Aurora and the others were the hardest phone calls Cope had ever made in his life. Everyone he spoke with said they would be there as soon as they could. While they waited, Jude and Cope combed the grounds of The Witch House.

“Are you getting anything here?” Jude asked carefully.

“You mean, am I getting the feeling that Anson did this?” Cope had been reaching out with his gift since Anson’s panicked phone call nearly an hour ago.

“Yeah, that,” Jude agreed.

“I’m not getting the feeling that he’s dead, but I’m also not getting anything on where he is either.” Cope frowned. How the hell did a man just vanish into thin air?

“What about Bertha or Abigail? Are you in touch with them?” Jude perked up at his own suggestion.

“I haven’t heard a peep from either of them.” Voices near the front of the house caught Cope’s attention. “Sounds like everyone is here.” Both men took off running toward the street.

Everyone was there: Carson, Cole, Tennyson, Ronan, and a very special guest. Everly was strapped to Ronan’s chest. She was sound asleep.

“You did not bring my goddaughter to a haunted house.” Jude’s voice was gruff. Cope thought he almost sounded scared.

“I wasn’t letting Tennyson come out here alone. No one we know is up at this time of the morning, so I had no choice but to bring her along. This sure as hell isn’t a place I want my infant daughter to be, tonight of all nights.”

Cope understood where both Jude and Ronan were coming from. He’d also known there was no way Ronan was going to let Tennyson come without him.

“I’m not getting anything malicious from Anson. He didn’t have anything to do with Callum’s disappearance. He’s nervous, anxious, and scared.” Tennyson pointed to the young man who was leaning against the passenger side of his car.

Those were all things Cope was feeling too. He’d gotten the same impressions from Anson that Ten was picking up now. “What about Callum? Are any of you picking up his trail?”

Carson’s eyes were closed, and he was shaking his head no. He opened his mouth to speak when a car tore up the road, swerving to park across the road from the house.

“Where is he?” Aurora demanded, running across the street. “Where’s my Callum?”

Jude rushed out to Aurora, giving her a hug and holding her tight. “We don’t know. That’s why we called you. I need you to calm down, sweetheart. You won’t be able to help us unless you’re calm. Can you do that for me?”

Aurora pulled back from Jude. She swiped angrily at the tears rolling down her face. Straightening her spine, the witch took a deep breath. “I’m blank, Jude. I’m not seeing anything at all. Where is he? Where is my boy?”

“I don’t know.” Jude hugged her again.

Cope was feeling an avalanche of emotions from all of the people around him. The fear and worry were crushing. He needed to push past all the static so he could focus on finding Callum.
